Profile

Born in a 5-generation winemaking family, Hugo has been keen to learn and discover ever since he left the small town of Obernai, Alsace, when he was 18. As he was preparing for a Masters degree in Champagne and Wine Management in Reims, he decided to go and experience the American way of life near New Orleans, Louisiana for a year and a half. Down the bayou, he graduated from a full-time MBA program as a transferee from his business school in France.

Back to Europe, he found an opportunity in London as a Marketing consultant in the City, and fell in love with the ever-buzzing, yet cool atmosphere of the Thames shores, so decided to stay.

His passion for wine led him to take jobs facing end-consumers directly, at some of the most successful wine bars around: Borough Market, Leicester Square, Paddington and Islington are part of his experience now. During his time in the UK, he succeeded to study with the WSET school, going now for the Diploma.

His goal is to visit every wine producing region in the world. So far, he has tasted local wines in the Barossa Valley in Australia, Stellenbosch and the Cape Town area in South Africa, Napa and Sonoma Valleys in California, Chianti in Italy, Rias Baixas in Spain, Champagne, Burgundy, Beaujolais, and Bordeaux in France. Next step? Chile or Argentina.

Favourite wine? None, because Hugo thinks wine is about discovering something new every time he raises a glass, although he has a little weakness for Pinot Noir in all its forms (who said Sideways?).

Commitment and thoroughness are his way of delivering work on a day-to-day basis, making sure to apprehend and listen to every aspect of a customer need before applying his vision and analysis.
